Dorm Life FAQ
Q: I already have 2 children whom I am parenting as well as being 3 months pregnant. Could my children live with me?
A: Unfortunately, our dorm is not licensed for other children. If you have other children our Community Service program would be the best option for you.

Q: Can friends and family come visit me?
A: If you live on campus, your friends and family are always welcome to visit. Visiting hours are normally 8:00 am - 11:00 pm.

Q: I am 18 and am currently living with my parents. I have a farm and livestock that I must care for. However, I know my family would not approve of my decision to put my baby up for adoption. Can I stay at Gladney and still leave to take care of my livestock and go to work?
A: Yes! If you decide to live in our residential program, you are able to continue working if you have transportation.

Q: I am enrolled in a technical college and am 19 and pregnant. If I lived there could I still go to school and work on a degree? I am considering adoption.
A: If you have transportation, you can continue going to school and work while living in the dorm.

Q: I am 16 & pregnant for the 3rd time. From my 1st pregnancy I have a beautiful daughter who will be 1-yr at the end of this month. I had an abortion this past October (2nd pregnancy). I just found out I’m pregnant again & due in December. I can’t go thru with another abortion and I’m just not ready to parent a second child. I need to get away from my school (including family & friends) if I really want to place this baby for adoption. If I live at Gladney, can I bring my 1-yr-old daughter with me?
A:At this time, Gladney is not licensed in our Residential facility for other children. To find out your options, call 1-800-GLADNEY and ask to speak with an admissions counselor.

Q: At what stage of the pregnancy may a prospective resident come to live at the facility?
A: Most birth mothers are approved to move in to our residential facility around their fifth month.

Q: I am 23 and living in North Carolina. I would like to live on the Gladney campus but didn't know if you accept birth mothers out of state. Also is there a waiting list for the campus?
A: Our maternity home is open for birth mothers all across the U.S. who are planning adoption. The openings in the dorm vary so I encourage you to call 1-800-GLADNEY and speak with an admissions counselor to start the approval process.

Q: I am 21 and have a 3 year old son. Can he stay with me?
A: Our maternity home is not licensed for children but we can still work with you in our community service program.

Q: If I change my mind about giving my child away, will I be charged for staying in your Gladney home?
A: Because every case is unique, we assess on an individual basis. The Gladney Center does subsidize all adoptions and many people chose to make donations to the agency to cover expenses.

Q: Is there a school on campus?
A: If you live on our campus you are able to continue your education through the Crowley Independent School District. You are able to take the basics, AP classes and honor classes which will count as credits towards graduation.

Q: I wanted to know how old do you have to be to come there?
A: There are no age restrictions, however, if you are a minor you must have parental permission.

Q: What if I don't yet know if I want to give up or keep my baby? Can I still come and stay at the maternity home? Where are the homes located?
A: Our maternity home is located in Ft Worth, Tx. One requirement to live in the dorm is that you are planning adoption. While you are here, you will receive individual counseling in regards to your adoption plan. Please call us @ 1-800-GLADNEY to explain in further detail.

Q: What is your center like and what does it take to get in to your center. Does it cost any money?
A: Our maternity home is for women planning adoption for their child. We are located in Fort Worth, Texas and can house up to 30 women. We are a drug free and smoke free dorm. We provide you with housing, food, counseling and education services. There is no fee to live on campus. However, there is a process and you do have to be approved prior to moving in. The process is for us to mail you a background to complete and send back with a pregnancy verification. You will also have to have a TB test and those results showing negative prior to moving in. We would be happy to help you, just give us a call @ 1-800-GLADNEY.

Q: Will I have a choice to give my baby up or if once I'm there it's final?
A: To stay in our maternity home, we want you to be committed to your adoption plan. However, Texas state law states that you cannot relinquish your parental rights until at least 48 hours after the baby's birth. Until you relinquish your parental rights, nothing is final. Once you relinquish, it is irrevocable.

Q: If we live in another state will you fly me there to your campus?
A: We would assess your situation and assist you in making the best plan possible. I would love to talk to you about your specific situation.

A: You do not have to have your parent's permission to plan an adoption. However, if you are under the age of 18, you must have your parents' permission to live on campus.

Q: How many months do you have to be to go live at Gladney? How long can you stay in the dorm.

Q: Where will I go to school while I'm at Gladney?
A: If you are in middle school you will be home schooled on our Gladney campus in Fort Worth, Tx. If you are in high school, you will be enrolled in an alternative program through Crowley ISD. If you want to take career development courses, those are offered through Tarrant County College in Fort Worth.

Q: I'm 16 yrs old and live in New Orleans. I want to live on Gladney's campus but have no way to get out there. Should I just stay at home?
A: I suggest calling our agency @ 1-800-GLADNEY and speaking with our admissions staff about your situation. The Gladney Center takes each situation case by case.

Q: I am pregnant with my second child. Could I bring my first child with me while I go through this second pregnancy?
A: Unfortunately, we are not licensed to house children on campus. However, you can still work with our agency and not live on campus through our community service program. Or, you could have someone watch your first child while you live on campus in our residential program.
