Two trips are required of families adopting from Bulgaria. The first trip involves about 7 days. Parents visit the orphanage for several days and then go to the Ministry of Justice to officially accept the referral. Both parents are required to travel on this trip. After returning home, both parents will prepare, sign and forward back to Bulgaria child referral acceptance documents.

The second trip to Bulgaria occurs around five months after the first trip. Adoptive parents should plan to be in-country 7 days. While in Bulgaria, parents are accompanied by a translator and/or a Gladney representative.
